Brief:
Texas CAN is a nonprofit charter school operating as a public school. They help at-risk students earn full diplomas and provide a bridge to the workforce. They bring in career opportunities and mentors to give students as many options as possible. When we walked the 90-year-old campus to locate immediate needs, we determined a master plan was needed to bring together all of their small projects around campus. Alongside an architect, a master plan was created giving Texas CAN insight on budget and areas of need. During the renovation, we reworked the cafeteria and created a contemporary gathering space for students.

“They want to be at school and the school doesn't feel like a drag”
How we came in clutch.
TDC was able to bring a lot of value to the campus while staying $100,000 under budget. Before we had stepped in, they were using foldable plastic tables and $16 amazon.com stack chairs. That's the environment the students ate in every day. They gave us a budget of $350,000 and it only took us $250,000 to completely re-image the whole cafeteria and kitchen. The cafeteria quickly became the gathering place of the school where the students came to decompress. Students gravitate towards it because it has a furniture variety that allows for; eating, project work, individual work and relaxation.
